Welcome To Huayllabamba

The Sunflower Children's Home in Peru was created for the sole purpose of serving and helping children. Our goal is to make the children feel they have a family that loves and cares for them and to help each child reach their maximum potential to live happy, healthy and productive lives.

When I first came to the Sunflower, I knew I had come into a sacred place. A sacred home. A home where children grow; where children play; they love; they laugh; and where they can live. I immediately knew they was no where else in the world like the Sunflower. And I knew that we needed your help to the Sunflower to achieve its full potential.

From the moment I became aware of the Sunflower Children's Home and met the Familia Gavancho, I felt a profound call to help. This small village has forever changed me and my family. More than just providing the Sunflower children with basic necessities, we provide them with a forever family. Our children graduate from the Sunflower program armed with education and a knowledge that their life circumstances do not define them. Each child leaves knowing they are of infinite worth and filled with a desire to lift others.

I can't imagine finding a child homeless in the gutter or along the side of the road. The work this organization does to protect and rescue children is critical. Giving them shelter, food, education and even more importantly, love is amazing. I know collectively we can help save lives! I'm so happy to be given the opportunity to serve in this organization.

Our Areas of Focus

Security &
Safety

Many of our Children are saved from homelessness or abusive and hostile home situations. We provide safety and security to protect them from abusive family members, predators, slavery and trafficking.

Skills &
Work

We provide training and teaching so that children are prepared to find work when they enter society as an adult. We believe it is imperative that children are taught the satisfaction that comes from hard work.

Love

Every child needs to feel loved and supported. Sadly, many of our children enter Sunflower orphanage feeling abandoned and unwanted. We provide an atmosphere where children can connect, play, laugh and know that they are loved by our Sunflower family.

Food &
Health

Whether a child is homeless or in a family too poor to provide for them, we take them. Nutritious meals are provided daily and an on-site clinic makes it possible from our children to receive regular physical and dental checkups.

Education

Our Founder, Leo Gavancho, has received two master degrees in education. All of our children attend school every day & we provide tutoring for those children who may need the extra help. With your donations, we will soon be able to build an onsite computer lab.

Rescue

We work with organizations who rescue children from sex-trafficking and slavery. It is heartbreaking to learn of the prevalence of this heinous crime in Peru and the rest of the world. Sunflower Orphanage is a safe haven for children who are saved from these dire situations.

Help Us Reach Our Goal

We have room to help 70 children, but currently can only care for 10. Every dollar you donate helps us provide food and shelter for one more child.
